After making 104 for 1 in 40 overs between the showers on Thursday, Durham added 142 in 33 overs of positive batting to reach lunch on 246 for 4.

Simon Katich fell four short of 1,000 Championship runs for the season when he was out for 60, edging an attempted cut to first slip, and then Paul Collingwood edged Peter Hartley to second slip for 12.
