Lancashire warmed up for their County Championship title-deciding week against Surrey at The Oval with a fine Pro40 League Duckworth-Lewis win by 32 runs over Hampshire at Old Trafford yesterday.

The Red Rose county hoisted themselves into third place in Division One of the NatWest Pro40 League with their third win from eight games. They posted 199 for 4 as captain Mark Chilton finished the innings off with an unbeaten 83.

Hampshire lost seven wicket for 31 runs in 12 overs, slumping from 85 for no wicket to 116 for seven. The game was virtually done and dusted before the players were taken off because of rain in the 26th over with Hampshire 122 for seven.

Carl Hopkinson's maiden century for Sussex was not enough to give his side victory as Nottinghamshire beat them by nine runs to land the runners-up spot behind Worcesteshire.

Northamptonshire must go into a play-off against Middlesex to protect their Division One status, after failing to beat now-relegated Essex in a last-ball thriller which ended in a tie at Wantage Road.
