The Middlesex all-rounder Jamie Dalrymple celebrated his England call-up with a half-century but then endured a last-ball Pro40 First Division defeat to Glamorgan at Southgate last night.

James Franklin struck the winning run off Chad Keegan as the Welshmen bettered Middlesex's 209 for 7. Dalrymple made 82, beginning his innings at a time when the Londoners had slumped to 26 for 3.

Glamorgan's in-form No 3 Michael Powell propelled his team's chase with 81 runs. But with three wickets toppling for one run at one stage, Franklin was required to arrest the wobble.

Surrey scored a six-wicket victory over Kent with three overs to spare in their Second Division match at Guildford. The visitors managed 229 for 9 after opting to bat first. Surrey's reply got off to a flying start with 71 from the opener James Benning and Mark Butcher (52no) completed the job.

Yorkshire suffered a 167-run defeat to Leicestershire in front of their own seaside crowd at Scarborough. The visitors posted 263 for 7 and the White Rose county wilted in reply to be 96 all out in 26.3 overs.
