The banned leg-spinner Shane Warne has been awarded a new, 12-month central contract by the Australian Cricket Board. The 33-year-old was included in the ACB's 25-strong élite party despite being two months into a one-year drug ban, imposed for taking banned diuretics on the eve of the World Cup.
The new ACB contracts begin on 1 July, but Warne's will not come into effect until his ban expires on 10 February 2004.
Sri Lanka's Hashan Tillakaratne has retired from one-day international cricket, having been appointed Test captain.
