Sussex's hopes of stepping up the pressure on the County Championship leaders, Surrey, were frustrated yesterday when Russell Warren steered Nottinghamshire to a draw at Trent Bridge.

James Kirtley, left out of the England side for the first Test against South Africa, took 5 for 60 to force the home side to follow on 201 runs behind after being bowled out for 296.

But Warren led much stouter resistance from Nottinghamshire in their second innings. He was unbeaten on 114 off 191 balls, including 14 fours and one six, at the end. Darren Bicknell and Kevin Pietersen chipped in with fifties as Nottinghamshire reached 291 for 4.

India A remain undefeated on their tour after beating Gloucestershire in their one-day match at Cheltenham by 69 runs. Two left-armers, the spinner Murali Kartik and the medium-pacer Irfan Pathan, took three wickets each as the county side were bowled out for 193 in reply to 262 for 8.
