Wigley puts Australia's opener under more pressure

Faltering opening batsman Phillip Hughes found his place in Australia's Test team under threat from two directions at Northampton yesterday.

Exposed again as vulnerable to short-pitched balls on off stump as Northamptonshire seamer David Wigley bounced him out for just 10 – caught at gully off the splice – the 20-year- old left-hander then watched Shane Watson, the man most likely to unseat him at Edgbaston, stroke a confident 84 on the first day of the three-day tour game at Wantage Road.

On a rain-disrupted day, Australia had reached 231 for three before bad light stopped play.
