Yvonne McGregor last night defied a broken shoulder to smash the British 3,000 metres record and break her own 3,000m pursuit championship best twice on the National Centre track at Manchester, writes Robin Nicholl.
McGregor improved her championship best by more than 10 seconds in two rides. In her second ride, she also cut just over three seconds from the British record, set by Sally Dawes four years ago, with 3min 43.867sec, to come within one race of her second British pursuit title. Her opponent in today's final is Maxine Johnson.
