Cyclist Simon Clarke celebrates race win, before being told he actually came second
Video: A gentle tap on the back from a fellow cyclist made Clarke realise his mistake
Cyclist Simon Clarke was left red-faced on live television when he punched the air after winning stage four of the Giro d'Italia - only to realise he had actually come a very distant second.
Clarke could not hide his joy as he crossed the finish line in what he thought was first place, only to be given a gentle pat on the back by a fellow cyclist, who pointed ahead and told him that Italian Davide Formolo had finished first a lot earlier than them.
You can watch what Clarke's reaction was in the video below:
Clarke did not realise that 22-year-old Formolo had broken away from the group on the final climb of the race, enabling him to finish 22 seconds ahead of Clarke.
Despite Clark's evident embarrassment, his second place finish meant he took the Maglia Rosa, the pink jersey.
