Giro d'Italia: French rider Sylvain Georges fails drugs test

The Ag2r-La Mondiale rider did not start today's 11th stage

Sylvain Georges has failed a doping test at the Giro d'Italia, the International Cycling Union has confirmed.

The 29-year-old Ag2r-La Mondiale rider did not start today's 11th stage of the event and a subsequent statement from the UCI said he had tested positive for the stimulant Heptaminol.

"Earlier today the UCI notified French rider Sylvain Georges of an Adverse Analytical Finding (presence of the stimulant Heptaminol based on the analysis report from the WADA accredited laboratory in Roma) in his urine sample collected at the Giro d'Italia on 10 May 2013.

"Mr Georges has the right to request and attend the analysis of his B sample."
