Danny Romero, the International Federation's flyweight champion, will defend his title against fellow American Mark Johnson on 2 February in New Mexico. The promoter, Brad Carmel, said the bout was arranged after the Welshman, Robbie Regan, declined to fight Romero for financial reasons. By knocking out Tunisia's Ferid Ben Jeddou on 16 December, Regan won the interim title set up while Romero was injured and earned a shot at Romero himself.
