DENNIS PRIESTLEY, the No 1 seed, despite having trouble hitting the doubles, beat the Irishman Tom Kirby 4-2 to reach the semi-finals of the World Darts Council Skol World Championship at Purfleet yesterday.

Priestley, who had seven 180s, won the first set easily but missed seven doubles in the second set and five in the fourth.

The Yorkshireman maintains this is the real world championship even though the British Darts Organisation's Embassy World Championship, which begins tomorrow at the Lakeside Country Club, carries the official title. 'As far as I am concerned, the man who wins here this week will be world champion,' he said.
