Sherrock becomes the first woman to record a victory at the PDC World Darts Championship

Fallon Sherrock etched her name into darts history by becoming the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship.

The 25-year-old from Milton Keynes defeated Ted Evetts in Tuesday night's penultimate match, clinching a 3-2 victory in a final-set shootout, and said afterwards that the victory proves women have what it takes to challenge on the grandest stage in the sport.

“I’ve proved that we can play the men and we can beat them,” said Sherrock after feeding off a partisan crowd that cheered her every shot and booed the majority of Evetts’s throws at doubles.

“I’ve loved every minute of it and I’m so happy that I can continue it rather than go out in the first round.

“Obviously I was gutted that I missed it (four set darts) but I just said to myself just focus on getting it back to 2-2, and when you can then focus on holding it all together.”

Sherrock’s victory comes just two days after Mikuru Suzuki, the other female qualifier in the 96-strong field, suffered an agonising 3-2 defeat against John Richardson.

Sherrock will now play the current world No 11 Mesur Suljovic in the second round, where she will be guaranteed at least £15,000 in prize money for reaching the last 64.
