A male athlete was thrown out of the Atlanta Olympics after admitting taking the drug erythropoietin (EP0), it was alleged yesterday. The athlete from Eastern Europe admitted to the International Olympic Committee that he was taking the drug which is suspected to have killed 18 cyclists in Europe in the last 10 years, according to the IOC medical commission vice- president, Jacques Rogge, in an interview on Danish television. However, the IOC's most senior doping official, Prince Alexandre de Merode, denied that any athletes had been expelled for taking that drug.
