Epsom card abandoned
Persistent heavy rain forced the abandonment of the race meeting at Epsom last night. The rain began at around 2.30pm and was still falling when the stewards looked at the course at 5pm and again at 5.30pm.
Andrew Cooper, the clerk of the course, said: "Heavy rain was cascading off a road which runs across the track and the the tarmac began to be lifted by the water. It then began to affect other areas of the track."
Looking ahead to Sunday's meeting he said: "I will be getting a contractor in first thing to look at the road and hopefully we will not have any problems."
