Equestrianism: Blenheim title goes to Clark
POLLY CLARK progressed from overnight fifth to win the Blenheim Horse and Hound International Horse Trials on Arthur Comyn's Westlord yesterday, after a blustery show jumping phase. She finished 1.2pts ahead of Beale Wright Morris, of the United States.
Competitors jumped in the reverse order of merit, with the wind gathering strength as the competition reached its climax. Pippa Funnell, the overnight leader on Rainbow Magic, and Andrew Nicholson, of New Zealand, who was lying second on King Leo, had the worst of the conditions while they were jumping. Both incurred 10 penalties for two fences down, which dropped them to fifth and seventh.
Third place went to Kristina Gifford and the big ex-show jumper, The Gangster II, whose only mistake yesterday came at the first fence.
