Equestrianism: Thomson pushes for place

Mary Thomson staked a claim for international recognition in the final trial for World Championship selection here yesterday, writes Mary Gordon Watson from Althorp. The 33-year-old, hoping for a call-up to Britain's three-day event team with King William, headed the dressage section in the Maverick Championship with 29 points. There was encouragement too for Ian Stark. The 40-year- old Scot, partnering Kilcoran, finished in third place, four points adrift of Thomson.
