European Round-Up: Robson's goal-shy Sporting

BOBBY ROBSON, the former England manager, is not having the happiest start in Portugal. Robson, who left PSV Eindhoven after a second successive Dutch title to join Sporting Lisbon, has yet to see his new charges find the net in two League games.

Sporting, who drew their first match 0-0, lost 2-0 away to Salgueiros on Saturday night, an inauspicious start to their challenge for a first League title in a decade. The goals came in quick succession shortly before the interval. Rui Franca dribbled round Sporting's Croatian goalkeeper Tomislav Ivkovic in the 38th minute and the Serbian defender Stevan Milovac drove in the second from a 20-yard free-kick.

Whatever the country, poor form always means the same thing. 'We need to get a good result to overcome the pressure which everyone, including the press, is putting on us,' Robson said.

Feyenoord are setting the early pace in the Netherlands, but having scored nine times in their opening two victories they were held to a 0-0 draw at Utrecht and had defender Orlando Trustfull sent off. The slip could have cost them the League lead, but Ajax failed to take their chances and drew 0-0 at Sparta Rotterdam to remain second on goal difference.

Paris St Germain's heavy investment in an attempt to upstage Marseille and take the French title seems to be paying off so far. They cruised to a 2-0 home win over Caen on Saturday to stay top of the League with maximum points from four games, David Ginola and Laurent Fournier scoring the goals.
