Everton have made a pounds 3m bid for the Nottingham Forest winger Ian Woan. Joe Royle, the Everton manager, has made an inquiry for the Liverpool- born Woan, who was rejected by the club when he was a teenager.

Everton plan three or four signings in the summer and Woan has emerged as favourite for the position down the left, which would mean a departure for Anders Limpar. Forest have confirmed Everton's interest, although Tottenham are also actively pursuing the player.

Brazil's Romario could face a four-game suspension at a crucial phase of the Rio state championship for "immoral and unsporting conduct" during last Sunday's game against their arch rivals Fluminense.

Flamengo were down 2-1 with two minutes left when Romario scored an equaliser. He then ran towards Fluminense fans with his hand raised and middle finger extended.
