Famous Belgian victory

Erik Clarijs, a 27-year-old Belgian roofer, beat the top three seeds to take the pounds 7,000 first prize in the Winmau World Masters at Earl's Court, in west London, yesterday. Clarijs beat the second seed, Andy Fordham, 3-2 in the quarter-finals, then accounted for the England captain, Martin Adams, the third seed, 3-0 in the semi-final and followed that up with victory over the reigning world champion and No 1 seed, Richie Burnett, 3-0 in the final.
