Fiji outpower weary France: Rugby League

A dismal South Pacific tour for France ended yesterday with a 20-12 defeat by Fiji. The home team's big forwards dominated for much of the game and their strong tackling proved decisive in keeping out the free-running French for whom this was the sixth defeat in seven tour matches. Fiji scored three tries, converting one, to rush into a lead of 14-0 in the first 15 minutes. The weary French fought back but they could not recover from that early set-back and had clearly not recovered from their 58-0 defeat by Australia last Wednesday. Scott Ranson, the Oldham winger, has agreed a new one-year deal with the club, with a further 12-month option. London Broncos have agreed personal terms for a two-year contract with Cavill Heugh, the Rochdale Hornets forward. The two clubs are now discussing a player exchange deal.
