Uefa, Europe's governing body, confirmed this week that England will have three places on merit in next season's Uefa Cup, plus a fourth place thanks to their good "fair play" record.

Albion Rovers have appointed Jimmy Crease, formerly in charge of Berwick Rangers, as their new manager. He takes over from Tom Spence, sacked last week.

John Ryan, the former manager of Cambridge United, has taken charge of the GM Vauxhall Conference club, Dover Athletic, in succession to Chris Kinnear. Ryan moves from the Beazer Homes League club, Sittingbourne.

The FA Vase quarter-final between Oxford City and Canvey Island has been switched to Sunday 26 February (3.0) from the previous day.

TRANSFERS: Garry Thompson (forward) Cardiff to Northampton (loan); Stuart Bimson (defender) Macclesfield to Bury (£12,500).

TRANSFER TRIBUNAL FEE: Dean Yates (defender) Notts County to Derby (£300,000 plus a further £200,000 after 25 League appearances, a further £150,000 after 50 and a further £150,000 after 75).
