Schalke, the German First Division side, yesterday appointed the former Dutch international defender Huub Stevens as their new coach after Joerg Berger was sacked last week following a players' revolt.

The Northern Ireland international Aidan Davison has joined Ipswich Town on a month's loan from Bolton.

Leicester City have taken Stuart Slater on trial. The former West Ham and Celtic winger has had injury problems leading to his release by First Division Ipswich Town.

Bradford City hope to sign the Swedish striker Joakim Karlsson on a free transfer today from Trelleborgs. Karlsson is expected to accept a two- year contract at the First Division club after talks at the weekend.

The Wolves midfielder Darren Ferguson has been banned for three games following his sending-off against Bolton Wanderers last week.

The Aston Villa midfielder Mark Draper has been banned for one match after being dismissed for two bookable offences during last week's defeat at Newcastle United.
