Burnley will officially mark the opening of the two new stands at Turf Moor with a friendly against Liverpool on Monday 12 August.

Bristol City will ask Southampton for pounds 200,000 for their defender Richard Dryden, who is currently having trials with the Saints on their Irish pre-season tour. The 27-year-old former Birmingham player has also been on trial with Dundee United.

John Howarth, the former Blackburn secretary, has been appointed at Second Division Burnley in succession to Mark Blackbourne, who left to join Sunderland earlier this summer. Howarth spent 26 years at Ewood Park.

Fifa, world football's governing body, suspended the Slovenian international player Ermin Silijak indefinitely yesterday because it said he had signed with two different clubs, the French club Bastia and Reggiana of Italy. Silijak must make a statement by 26 July.
