Ciro Ferrara, the Juventus defender, has been withdrawn from Italy's Euro 96 squad as a result of the thigh strain he suffered in the midweek 2-2 draw with Belgium in Cremona. Alessandro Nesta, the 20-year-old Lazio defender, replaces him.

From the start of the 1996/97 season, the Scottish League club Caledonian Thistle are changing their name to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
