Mexico won the Concacaf Gold Cup with a 2-0 victory over the Brazilian Under-23 side in Los Angeles. Spectacular performances came from Mexico's Luis Garcia and Cuauhtemoc Blanco. The Brazilians were reduced to 10 men for the last 10 minutes after their defender, Andre Luis, was sent off for his second yellow card. In the third-place play-off, the United States beat Guatemala 3-0, thanks to goals from Eric Wynalda, Jovan Kirovski and Jeff Agoos.
