The FA will "continue to monitor" Brighton's future plans after a two- hour meeting with club officials at Lancaster Gate yesterday. The FA were told that the club, who have sold their Goldstone ground for redevelopment, intend to stay in the Brighton area.

Alan Stubbs, the 24-year-old central defender, has signed an extension to his contract which will tie him to Bolton until the middle of 1998. Keith Gillespie's new contract will keep him at Newcastle until 1999.
