Football: Arsenal want Schwarz

ARSENAL hope to sign Stefan Schwarz, Benfica's Swedish international midfield player. Bayer Leverkusen were also keen on Schwarz and had offered a reported pounds 2.8m.

John Lyall, Ipswich's general manager, is to take over control of the first team from Mick McGiven, who becomes football development manager. Paul Goddard and John Wark are appointed coaches.

Peter Shilton has signed a new two-year contract as manager of Plymouth Argyle. Bryan Robson, Middlesbrough's new manager, wants his Barnsley counterpart, Viv Anderson, as his assistant.
