OFFICIAL figures from the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board credit Channel 4 with an average 2.92m viewers - a C4 record for a sports programme - for their first live Italian game, a 3-3 draw between Lazio and Sampdoria on 6 September. On the same day, according to Barb, BSkyB attracted 430,000 for the domestic match between Leeds United and Manchester United.
