Marco Negri was not the only Italian import acquired by the Scottish champions last summer. Manager Walter Smith also paid pounds 4m to Fiorentina for , although you could be forgiven for wondering if the deal ever really took place. The 30-year-old central defender only played for 45 minutes - in a pre-season friendly against Everton last July - before suffering a recurrence of an Achilles injury. After a series of operations, player and club are confident the problem is cured. He is pencilled in for his debut against Hearts on 28 February - nine months after joining the club.
