Football: Moreiro goal restores Inter's equilibrium

Internazionale bounced back from their Italian cup humiliation at the hands of Milan in midweek, winner 1-0 at Piacenza yesterday thanks to Francesco Moriero.

The only goal came when Moriero dribbled past a string of Piacenza players, Ronaldo-style, before driving the ball home and banishing the nightmare of his team's 5-0 defeat at the San Siro in the Italian Cup.

Inter's win was even more precious because second-placed Juventus also picked up three points yesterday, the champions beating Vicenza 2-0.

Alessandro Del Piero converted a 27th-minute penalty after his strike partner Filippo Inzaghi was brought down. Ciro Ferrara notched the second from a 76th-minute Del Piero corner.

An early blitz wrecked Parma's hopes of keeping up with the leading clubs, and they went down 5-2 to Sampdoria in Genoa. Vincenzo Montella started the rout after eight minutes, with a 25-yard shot; Giuseppe Signori then nodded in the Yugoslav Sinisa Mihajlovic's free-kick for his first goal since joining from Lazio last month, and Simone Vergassola made it 3-0 with barely half-an-hour gone.

Vergassola then followed up his first goal in Serie A with a second just after the restart, but Parma finally responded with two quick goals from Filippo Maniero, only for Signori to score his second from a free-kick.

Milan failed to reproduce their sensational midweek form against Roma, drawing 0-0, while Lazio were 3-0 winners over Lecce at the Olympic stadium.

Fiorentina, who squandered a 2-0 lead over Juventus in the cup on Wednesday night, made amends with a 3-1 victory at Brescia. There were 0-0 draws for Bari against Atalanta and Empoli against Bologna.

In Spain on Saturday night, Atletico Madrid's Jose Mari Romero, a second- half substitute, hit a dramatic equaliser four minutes from time to earn a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid after Savio, also a substitute, had put Real ahead in the 68th minute.
