Paul Williams, the 30-year-old former Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton striker, is to have a trial period at Barnet.

Tranmere will complete the signing of the 31-year-old Italian Ivano Bonetti from Grimsby next week when the team return from a three-match tour of Ireland.

Liam Brady, who is returning to Arsenal as head of the club's youth development programme, will pull out of the consortium that has been trying to take control of his old club, Brighton. Talks between Albion's chairman, Bill Archer, and the consortium broke down last month following Brady's accusation that Archer had denied them access to the club's accounts.
