Football: Platt back in favour

(First Edition)

DAVID PLATT, omitted from Juventus's first two Italian league games, is expected to make his debut in today's home Uefa Cup tie against the Cypriot side, Anorthosis Famagusta.

Also back in action are Ruud Gullit and Jean-Pierre Papin, both dropped by Milan for Sunday's 5-4 away win against Pescara. Milan, the champions, meet the Slovenian side, Olimpija Ljubljana, in the European Cup.

Paul Whelan, younger brother of Liverpool and Republic of Ireland's Ronnie Whelan, looks for his own moment of European glory when Bohemians take on Steaua Bucharest in the Cup-Winners' Cup at Dalymount Park.
