The Plymouth Argyle vice-chairman Peter Bloom has asked manager Neil Warnock and chairman Dan McCauley to attend a "clear the air" meeting next week, after Warnock yesterday threatened to resign unless he receives more financial backing.

The Republic of Ireland centre-forward Tony Cascarino is considering a move from Marseille to another French club, Caen.

Valencia have appointed Jorge Valdano, the former Argentine international forward, as their new coach in succession to Luis Aragones. Valdano, a World Cup winner in 1986, took Real Madrid to the Spanish League title in 1995, but was sacked last season.
