Football: Sporting Digest

David Lucas, the Preston goalkeeper, has become the sole Second Division player in the Football League squad to face their Italian League Serie B counterparts at The Valley today. The 20-year-old has been drafted in as a replacement for Richard Wright, the England under-21 goalkeeper, who was injured playing for Ipswich at the weekend. Shaun Derry and Wayne Quinn (both Sheffield United), James Scowcroft (Ipswich) and Lee Crooks (Manchester City) have also been called up in place of the injured Adrian Forbes (Norwich), Seth Johnson (Crewe), Nigel Quashie (Queen's Park Rangers) and Alan Rogers (Nottingham Forest).

Huddersfield Town are set to sign the unsettled Arsenal striker, Chris Kiwomya, on a free transfer.
