Nuneaton Borough. . .2

Swansea City. . . . .1

(aet; score at 90 min 1-1)

NUNEATON Borough, whose 1967 FA Cup win over Swansea has ranked as one of their greatest achievements, emulated that triumph last night with victory over the same team after extra time in their first-round replay. A 100th-minute penalty save fron John Cornforth by Richard Attwood, who had brought down Colin Pascoe, ensured the Beazer Homes League side won a trip to Bournemouth in the next round.

Nuneaton's right-winger Tony Simpson cancelled out the Second Divison side's early opener with an equaliser eight minutes from the end of normal time, and then sent a frozen but frenzied crowd into uproar after eight minutes of extra time when he swept home Mark Green's cross.

Swansea, however, had established an early lead. After just eight minutes, a misunderstanding between Matt Tarry, Borough's central defender, and Attwood allowed Swansea's centre-forward, Steve Torpey, to roll the ball gently inside the far post of an undefended goal.

In the early stages, Swansea toyed with their non-League opposition. On the half-hour, Torpey nearly added a second and, from an even better chance five minutes before half-time, Jason Bowen shot wide.

Nuneaton recovered themselves to apply sporadic pressure throughout the second half and after 55 minutes Chapple's miskick gave Simpson a free shot on goal which Freestone did well to hang on to.

Swansea City (4-4-2): Freestone; Clode (Ford, 80), Walker, Harris, Cook; Pascoe, Bowen, Chapple, Cornforth; Hayes, Torpey. Substitute not used: Miles.

Referee: J Holbrook (Ludlow).
