SWEDEN's progress in the World Cup is putting Thomas Ravelli, their goalkeeper, on course to break the world record of 125 caps, set by Peter Shilton, the England goalkeeper, during the last finals.
Ravelli will be just 10 games short of equalling the record when he faces Romania in tomorrow's quarter-final at Stanford, a game in which he will equal Bjorn Nordqvist's national record of 115 caps, set in a career spanning the 1970s.
'All being well, I could set a new world record early next year, which is something to look forward to,' he said. 'I am 35 in August, Peter Shilton was playing internationals till he was 40, Pat Jennings was 41. I think I have easily got two more years and maybe a lot longer than that.'
