Can Spurs end St Totteringham's Day curse by finishing above Arsenal for first time in 21 years?

Tottenham might have been denied the Premier League crown but a win over Southampton today would be a landmark occasion.

Today could mark the end of St Totteringham’s Day.

St Totteringham’s Day is Arsenal’s supporters’ annual day of celebration, when it becomes mathematically impossible for Spurs to finish above them.

Today, however, victory for Spurs at the Lane would guarantee Mauricio Pochettino’s men their best ever Premier League finish.

More importantly, it would mean that only a freakish turnaround in goal difference will stop them finishing above Arsenal for the first time in 21 years.

Second-placed Tottenham have 70 points, three ahead of Arsenal - who travel to Manchester City for the 4pm kick-off - and their goal difference is 14 better than their north London rivals.

The last time Spurs finished above Arsenal, in the 1994-95 season, they were led to seventh place by the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann, Gary Mabbutt and Teddy Sheringham. Stewart Houston’s Arsenal, meanwhile, finished 12th.
