Liga MX president Enrique Bonilla tests positive for coronavirus

Top-flight matches in Mexico were suspended this week until further notice to prevent spread of disease

Coronavirus: How has sport been affected?

The president of Liga MX has announced he has tested positive for coronavirus.

Enrique Bonilla, head of Mexico’s top football league, shared the news in a statement, adding: “I don’t have serious symptoms.”

Bonilla also said he would remain in isolation and continue to monitor the situation across the league.

Liga MX matches were suspended this week until further notice in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

On Tuesday, the president of Liga MX club Atletico de San Luis team, Alberto Marrero, was also found to have tested positive for the disease.

Mexico has yet to declare legal bans on public gatherings.

However, the country has encouraged its citizens to maintain a healthy distance from others while in crowded places.
