In last night's Europa League quarter-final first legs, veteran striker Raul scored twice for Schalke but they still lost 4-2 at home to Athletic Bilbao, who eliminated Manchester United in the previous round.

Fernando Llorente (2), Oscar de Marcos and Iker Muniain got the Athletic goals.

Sporting Lisbon, who knocked out Manchester City, beat Metalist Kharkiv 2-1, while Australian winger Brett Holman, who has agreed to join Aston Villa, scored in AZ's 2-1 win over Valencia.
