Barcelona must wait at least another week to wrap up the Spanish title after drawing 2-2 at Athletic Bilbao on Saturday before second-placed Real Madrid won 2-1 at city rivals Atletico.
Victory for Barça and defeat for Real would have given the leaders an unassailable 16-point advantage. But Real's comeback cut Barça's lead to 11 and the Catalan club must wait until after their Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday to secure a fourth Spanish crown in five years.
After a sublime Lionel Messi strike cancelled out Markel Susaeta's opener, Alexis Sanchez put Barça ahead, before Bilbao's Ander Herrera fired home in the 90th minute. In Madrid, Angel Di Maria netted the winner for a Real side who rested Cristiano Ronaldo.
