Pep Guardiola returns to the location of his most famous and successful moments on Wednesday evening, hoping to make another one, only this time as Manchester City manager.

Barcelona won two Champions League crowns in four years under Guardiola, as well as winning the trophy as a player at the Nou Camp, leaving the City manager regarded higher than most to have graced the Spanish champions.

City’s early aura of invincibility has been removed as they have gone three games without winning after securing 10 victories from their opening 10 games this season.

City will be boosted by the return of Vincent Kompany, which is timely given the state of their defence recently and the minor issue of coming up against Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

It’s a big game for…

John Stones. The summer signing was dropped to the bench for City’s last Champions League outing but should find himself restored to the starting XI for the trip to Barcelona. He will have his hands full with the attacking talents on show but will have the opportunity to showcase the talents which could have been so well suited to Barca.

Best stat…

Liverpool are the only English team to beat Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League (2-1 in February 2007).

Remember when...

The only other time Guardiola has faced his old club, when Bayern Munich faced Barca in the semi-finals of the competition two years ago. Bayern lost 5-3 and Barcelona went on to win the tournament.

Player to watch…

Lionel Messi. There are so many stellar names on show, including Neymar, Suarez, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, but, really, there’s only one man to watch.
