Champions' League round-up: Camoranesi gives Juventus flying start to European campaign

Three goals before the half-time whistle gave Juventus a flying start against FC Artmedia Petrzalka in their Champions League third qualifying round first leg in Turin last night, paving the way for a 4-0 victory.

Mauro Camoranesi opened the scoring for the Italian side after seven minutes before the veteran striker Alessandro del Piero and Giorgio Chiellini contributed with two more in the 26th and 39th minutes respectively. A fourth goal in the 90th minute from Nicola Legrottaglie sealed Juve's 4-0 win over the Slovakian club.

Germany's Schalke 04 beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 after Christian Pander scored on the half-hour mark, in a game riddled with yellow cards. The second half did not get much better for the Spanish side after Antonio Lopez was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Dynamo Kiev all but qualified for the Champions League proper after Ismael Bangoura and Artem Milevskiy both scored twice to clinch a 4-1 victory over Spartak Moscow at the Luzhniki Stadium in the Russian capital. Nikita Bazhenov had put the hosts ahead but Bangoura levelled after 28 minutes before Milevskiy increased Kiev's lead. Bangoura made it three for the Ukrainians just after the break, with Milevskiy claiming his second five minutes from time.

The former Arsenal player Gilberto's side Panathinaikos beat Czech opposition Sparta Prague 2-1, with a second-half goal from Simao sealing the victory while Shakhtar Donetsk claimed a 2-0 win over Dynamo Zagreb. Darijo Srna put the Ukrainian champions ahead after just three minutes before the Brazilian Brandao doubled the lead on the half-hour mark.

Levski Sofia could be left to rue Georgi Ivanov's penalty miss as they went down to a 1-0 home defeat by BATE Borisov. Olympiakos were thrashed 3-0 by Anorthosis Famagusta FC.
