Antonio Conte wasted no time in turning his attention – and his anger – back on the Premier League fixture makers despite securing one of the most famous Champions League results of his career.

Substitute Michy Batshuayi climbed off the bench to score the winner with the last kick of the game against Atletico Madrid after Alvaro Morata had equalised Antoine Griezmann’s first-half penalty at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night.

The result leaves the Blues in commanding position in Group C but Conte, while clearly delighted with his team’s performance, chose his post-match press conference to once again hit out at the scale of his side’s hectic schedule with them now facing league leaders Manchester City in just three days’ time.

“It’s very difficult when Atletico Madrid score to come back, but despite this we did well to win,” he said. “We played with good personality and we kept our head on the pitch at all times. Against a difficult team like Atletico Madrid this is a good win – now it’s important to rest and recover because we don’t have much time before the game on Saturday against Manchester City.”

City played against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday evening giving them an extra 24 hours preparation for this weekend’s clash at Stamford Bridge and Conte wants an explanation why.

“Honestly in this case I feel a bit penalised and I think it is important to analyse the situation,” he added. “Tonight we play away and we return to London at about four o’clock tomorrow morning. To only have one day to prepare for this game is not right. It’s not right.

“Honestly I’m very surprised to see this big game played on Saturday and not Sunday. But we want to be ready and we need to face this game now.

“Manchester City are a very strong team and they are scoring a lot of goals so we need to get ready for this game. But someone needs to analyse the situation.”
