Coronavirus: PSG deliver 1,200 free meals a day to hospital workers in Paris during pandemic
Sale of 1,500 limited edition shirts funded charity project using Parc des Princes kitchens to prepare food for healthcare staff
Paris Saint-Germain are preparing up to 1,200 free meals a day for hospital workers in Paris with the help of 60 volunteers and matchday food trucks.
The French champions have offered the use of the club’s facilities to charities and health services since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, with the Street Food on the Move initiative using the kitchens at the Parc des Princes and organising daily deliveries to staff at Greater Paris University Hospitals.
Around 5,000 meals have been delivered to seven separate hospitals so far since the project started on 9 April thanks to the teams of 12 volunteers working every day of the week.
In total, around 25,000 meals will be delivered to healthcare staff, with the project funded by the club’s sale of 1,500 limited edition ‘Tous Unis’ (All Together) shirts.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, chairman and chief executive of Paris Saint-Germain, said: “We are going through an unprecedented global crisis, and Paris Saint-Germain is proud to play its part by mobilising its community and providing real assistance to those who are on the front line every day.
“They are true heroes, and we hope to continue showing our gratitude at the Parc des Princes when we are able to return there. We are all lining up alongside them in this battle.”
