Internazionale maintained their unbeaten start to the Serie A season with an impressive 2-0 win at Fiorentina yesterday afternoon.

The Viola could have moved to within a point of Roberto Mancini's men with a victory but that never looked likely once Luis Jimenez put Inter in front after nine minutes, and Julio Cruz doubled the visitors' lead a minute before half-time.

Roma beat fourth-placed Udinese 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico. Atalanta moved up to sixth with a 5-1 hammering of Napoli in Bergamo, while the Sicilian derby between Catania and Palermo which passed off without a repeat of last season's violence went the way of the home side, who won 3-1.

Cagliari and Livorno could not muster a goal between them while Massimo Paci scored the winner as Parma beat rock-bottom Empoli 1-0.

Siena and Lazio fought out a 1-1 draw, Massimo Maccarone cancelling out Goran Pandev's opener.

The France midfielder Franck Ribery propelled Bayern Munich back to first place in the Bundesliga yesterday with a first-half goal in a 1-0 victory at Arminia Bielefeld.

Ribery's goal in the 22nd minute, came against the run of play, and put Bayern back into first place after Werder Bremen temporarily moved ahead on Saturday with their 2-1 win over Hamburg SV.

In yesterday's other match, Ivica Grlic scored to give MSV Duisburg a 1-0 win over Nuremberg.

Bayern lead the table with 34 points ahead of Werder's 33 and HSV's 30.
