Edinson Cavani sent off after celebrating penalty with gun gesture in PSG's bad-tempered victory over nine-man RC Lens

Striker sent off for gun celebration and then arguing with the officials

Edinson Cavani was sent off during Paris St Germain’s 3-1 victory over RC Lens on Friday after he celebrated his goal with a gun toting gesture and then argued with the referee about the yellow card he received for it.

After netting PSG’s third from the penalty spot, Cavani wheeled away and produced his trademark gun celebration but was booked for the action.

When the striker then remonstrated with referee Nicolas Rainville about receiving the booking, he was shown a second yellow and ordered off the field.

At one point in the heated protests, the Uruguayan even appeared to touch the official.

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi told Canal Plus television: "He doesn't deserve this red card. Why did he get this yellow card before? He always celebrates the same way."

Cavani’s goal put the tough encounter to bed for PSG in an ill-tempered match at the Stade de France.

Adama Coulibaly put Lens ahead inside ten minutes but ex-Newcastle man Yohan Cabaye equalised.

Maxwell gave PSG the lead before Lens' Jean-Philippe Gbamin was sent off for the foul on Cavani which resulted in the penalty.

After Cavani had made it 3-1 and had been sent off, Lens were reduced to nine men after Jerome Le Moigne also received a red card for a bad foul.
