2017/18 Champions League top scorers

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has paid tribute to Gareth Bale’s sensational goal against Liverpool in the Champions League final – but has stopped short of ranking it higher than his own stunning volley in the 2002 final against Bayer Leverkusen.

Bale came off the bench to score twice against Liverpool, including a sublime overhead kick that put Real 2-1 up after 64 minutes.

The goal brought to mind Zidane’s own memorable finish – against Leverkusen at Hampden Park – but the Frenchman does not want the two goals to be compared.

“It's not the same thing. This is just the latest one that we have witnessed,” Zidane said.

“Gareth's goal was magnificent. Congratulations to him.”

But which goal do you think is better?

When asked if they would be targeting a fourth successive Champions League title next season, Zidane said: “We are going to think about what we achieved, enjoy the moment first. This is the most important thing now.

“We had a complicated season but to finish it with this result, this game, this great joy, makes us really happy.

“I've had a little bit of time to think about what this means. This is the status of this club. This is a legendary club, a club that has won 13 Champions Leagues so I'm happy to be part of this history.”
