Internazionale played out a 1-1 draw at the Stadio delle Alpi last night to remain league leaders and leave Juventus still sitting in fourth position in Serie A.

Italy midfielder Mauro Camoranesi came off the bench in the second half to earn Juventus the draw, while Inter's goal came through their Argentine striker Julio Cruz.

Sampdoria came back from Wednesday's 5-0 home defeat to Milan by crushing Cagliari 3-0 in Sardinia yesterday. Sergio Volpi gave Samp the lead in the 33rd minute, Andrea Caracciolo fired home six minutes later and Christian Maggio headed in a Claudio Bellucci free-kick to seal the win.

Parma drew 2-2 against Siena with the on loan Manchester City striker Bernado Corradi scoring the opening goal for hosts.

Atalanta claimed the points thanks to two Antonio Langella goals as they beat Catania 2-1. It was a weekend of draws elsewhere in the Italian league, with Genoa playing out a 3-3 draw with Palermo, Udinese held Livorno 0-0 and Napoli played Regina to a 1-1 draw. The relegation battlers Empoli were delighted with a 2-2 result against Roma.

Ajax returned to the top of the Dutch league yesterday, beating Roda JC 4-2. With Feyenoord beating De Graafschap 2-0 it puts Ajax and themselves both on 24 points, but Ajax have a better goal differential.

A managerless PSV, with whom Martin Jol, the former Spurs manager, has been linked, lost their first league match of the season on Saturday, 2-1 at SC Heerenveen.
