Jose Mourinho compares Chelsea draw with Dynamo Kiev to Scotland exit from Rugby World Cup

The Blues boss compared Champions League referee to Craig Joubert, the rugby official who cost Scotland victory over Australia

Jose Mourinho found comparisons between Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League to Scotland's exit from the Rugby World Cup.

The Chelsea manager was furious with a decision not to award his team a penalty, with Damir Skomina turning down an appeal when Cesc Fabregas fell under Serhiy Rybalka's challenge. Mourinho felt the call, which he said had cost his side victory, was comparable to the late penalty awarded by Craig Joubert to Australia in their Rugby World Cup quarter-final with Scotland.

The call by Joubert was incorrect, and ultimately cost Scotland a place in the semi-finals of the World Cup.

"The decision was crucial for the outcome," Mourinho said after last night's group game in Kiev.

"A fall in the box is a penalty."

Asked about Skomina's performance, Mourinho added: "The referee was very good. I'm serious.

"He made one mistake and, for example in the Rugby World Cup, the referee in the Scotland game was very good.

"But he made one mistake and because of that mistake Scotland is crying."

Mourinho, who was recently fined for labelling a referee "afraid", also managed to take a dig at the FA with his post-match comments. He referred to Skomina as "weak and naive", the same words used by Arsene Wenger that Mourinho, in his defence, pointed out had gone unpunished.

The result left Chelsea third in their group.
