Liverpool drew 1-1 with Basel and with that were out of the Champions League.

Nothing but a victory over their Swiss opponents was enough if the Reds were to progress through to the knock-out phase of the competition.

However, they deservedly found themselves behind when Alexander Frei struck from the edge of the box with a low drive.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers made changes at the break but Liverpool still struggled to make a mark on their opponents. Then Steven Gerrard stood up and took a free-kick.

The captain found the top corner of the net and for 10 minutes it looked like Liverpool might pull off another famous victory.

But they couldn't find another and rather than going into the Champions League draw, head into the Europa League instead.

So who was to blame for Liverpool's poor performance on such an important night? We take a look at how the individuals fared.
